Big Creek Falls

Big Creek Falls, located a mile upstream of Big Creek's confluence with Lewis River southeast of Mount St. Helens, is an elegant waterfall with easy access just off of a
principal Forest Service road. That is, the top of the waterfall is easily accessed... Typically, I don't care for waterfall compositions taken from a high perch so I set off to
shoot these falls from below, if I could find an angle that didn't obscure the waterfall while still providing an interesting foreground. After descending the steep slope and
battling my way through thick vegetation and down trees in the floodplain below the falls, I reached an awesome perch on a slippery log in the middle of Big Creek. It was
worth every scratch!
In this composition, notice the wonderful detail of the trees and vines of the foreground, on both sides of the waterfall. A web image just doesn't do it justice - you should
see this in an actual selenium-toned print! This vegetation provides a wonderful window to view the blurred waterfall of Big Creek Falls, with a plume of mist rising from
the base. Check out the companion photo (BW66004303) for a different angle. Which do you prefer?
