Canyonlands
Utah

For two days in late November of 2004 I sat on one site in the Canyon Rims area of South-East Utah patiently shooting the landscape in the
shifting light. In the mornings I shot off of a south-facing cliff while in the evenings, the north face had the best angles. Two weather systems
passed through while I was there - a wonderful gift that enhanced and diversified the compositions with shifting light, tones and cloud forms.
Amusingly, I had surprise in the middle of the first night as snow and rain drenched me and my down sleeping bag as I slept "under the stars", as
I typically do in the desert. Half asleep I put up my 4-season tent, wishing I wasn't lazy about setting up the tent earlier!
This shot was taken the first morning, as the clouds that drenched me during the long night passed out of the area. The patchy lighting from the
breaking clouds lit the foreground's rock formations and canyons in an interesting way, didn't it? For scale, note the thread of tiny dirt roads in the
foreground.
