The San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado is a special place. Flanked by the Sangre de Cristos to the East and the San Juans to the West, some
of the most stunning mountains in Colorado can be seen for scores of miles across the arid valley. This photo, taken at Elephant Rocks on the
West side of the valley, is a reminder of the amazing natural color and beauty that can be found in an area that gets only eight inches of
precipitation a year. Isn't the fleshy green vegetation, surrounded by its spiky armor, a wonderful contrast to the brilliant red color of its flowers?
The persistent beauty of nature never ceases to amaze me!
